This is my reflection on changing matter.
These were my goals for the changing matter
- Solids, liquids and gases have different observable properties and behave in different ways
- Compare data with predictions and use as evidence in developing explanation
- Use strategies to help me read and understand scientific texts that use tier 3 scientific language.
What we learnt during this unit was that how the three main states of matter can change state into each other by certain procedures they are melting, freezing, evaporating ,condensation, sublimation and deposition. We all carried out experiments to test these and for our project we did an experiment that connects with yr 5 chemistry standards. I achieved that I made myself know What the properties are of the three states of matter and how there advantaged and disadvantaged. I achieved it by listening to the video that explained there properties and i took notes from that to expand my learning to some of my goals. The experiment that helped me complete my goal was listing the properties of different items. I also found out that to tell properties you need to use your five senses. The five senses are touch, taste, smell, eyesight and hearing.
I can improve my learning by expanding the experiments I do at home. Example would be instead of an experiment with bicarb soda and vinegar i could use water and bicarb soda and note the differences. I knew most of the experiments that we did at school and i want to improve on them.
The number one rule to make sure you do as a scientist is to make sure you are safe. And don’t handle things you don’t know how to use. When you are doing the experiment you need to do the aim, hypotheses, materials, method, observations, discussion and conclusion when the experiment is finished.
The way i work is that i always take notes when i want to learn new things and how the most important thing is recording and predictions before you carry out experiments.
To improve on my school goals i can make more interesting things about science to show the class how it works and ten tell the class. This will work on my public speaking.
